I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Connecticut and a National Certified Counselor with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wellesley College. I specialize in treating mental health issues in adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, grief, and alcohol use challenges as well as identity and relationship issues. My goal is to walk with you on your journey to living a more fulfilling life and the first step is believing it is possible!
My counseling philosophy is that no matter what the circumstance, everyone deserves a safe space, free from judgment or expectations, from which to explore their life challenges. To foster that environment, I use compassion, encouragement, directness, and humor, to create a partnership with my client. It is within the collaboration between therapist and client I believe healing begins. My passion lies in a fervent wish to provide a safe space for my client to be vulnerable, face painful truths, and feel supported on their journey toward living their own definition of a better life. I utilize multiple modalities (CBT, Client-Centered Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Mindfulness to name a few) and provide an integrative approach that compliments the client’s own unique needs, strengths, and goals.
This is a second career for me. Before pursuing my degree in counseling, I began my career in the television news industry, honing my skills at active listening while telling stories with empathy and understanding. Then, after taking some time away from that career to focus on my family, I pivoted to working for a social services agency where I saw that I could use my skills of analysis, storytelling, and empathic listening to help people. After 8 years there, I knew I could help people best one-on-one, and I decided the time was now or never to begin pursuing my master’s degree in mental health. counseling.
Along with seeing private clients, I am currently affiliated with Yale University where I collaborate to explore interventions for risky drinkers and those with alcohol use disorder with a focus on co-morbidities including trauma, anxiety, and depression. Through this affiliation, I hope to translate research findings into clinical applications. I have presented for the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the Association for Psychological Science, and the CT Psychological Association
