My name is Sofia Israel Ancona and I am a Jewish, Latina and bilingual psychotherapist practicing in New York City. I see clients at a private practice called Union Square Psychotherapy, which is located in 44 East 12th Street, New York City, New York 10003, United States.
Before graduating with a BA in Psychology from American University in 2017, I interned at a forensic treatment clinic where I worked with sex offenders participating in group therapy. Upon graduating, I was employed as a Child Advocate Manager, representing the children’s best interests in Dependency Drug Court in Miami, FL for 3 years where I worked with children and families that were directly impacted by the foster care system. I then obtained her Masters of Science in Clinical Social Work at Columbia University in 2022 and was a fellow at the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training program where I received extensive training in providing DBT individual therapy and DBT skills group at Columbia Psychiatry.
I offer a space for self-discovery by uncovering how the elements of your identity (e.g., past and current relationships, religion, gender, culture) impacts who you are today. The aim is to understand how these factors combined, influences your relationship with others and with yourself. Leading to the changes you wish see in yourself as a result of your openness to engage with this demanding, yet wonderfully transformative process I believe in. I have experience working with clients who are at a higher risk, with immigrants and children of immigrants, and with those whose who have been affected by the conflict in the Middle East.
My therapeutic philosophy is grounded in teamwork by following your pace to explore the reasons that bring you to this vulnerable, yet wonderfully rewarding process. Do not hesitate to reach out via email or phone. I look forward to connecting with you.
While I am not in network with any insurance providers, I can provide you with a statement for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. I highly recommend checking with your insurance to verify if it covers out-of-network benefits. Please reach out with any questions, I am happy to work with you.
