Working with me is like entering an art studio where the only requirement is a self-portrait. All the choices are yours: medium, space, line, shape, color, and texture. I will ask questions about the significance of your choices as you embark upon this representation of self. I will ask for clarification of details. As the picture becomes clearer, I will reflect back to you what I see and we will collaboratively attribute meaning to the figure before us. The goal is to cultivate your self-understanding, which in turn yields greater self-compassion, thereby lighting the path ahead. The intake process will consist of gathering information about the reasons for your call and a brief history as well as the standard forms to be completed in the initial visit. I do not typically assign homework, though I will often recommend books that might deepen understanding or suggest techniques that support healing.
I have been working as a social worker since 1984 in both community and medical settings. As a therapist in an outpatient community mental health setting, I worked with clients of all ages using individual, family, and group modalities. As a therapist in hospital and home health settings, I have had extensive experience working with clients around the interplay between mental and physical health. I hold a certificate of Advanced Clinical Practice from NYU and I am currently continuing my training at the Object Relations Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. I am committed to ongoing learning and supervision as a foundation of my work.
