Profile
When it comes to therapy, I do not believe that one size fits all. Whether I am working with clients individually, in a group or as a family, I incorporate a variety of treatment approaches that are tailored to best meet each client’s needs. These modalities include: Art Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Strengths-Based Psychotherapy, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindful Self-Compassion, Play Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Informed Therapy. I work in partnership with clients to develop goals that reflect their individual personalities, experiences, strengths and resources.
I have worked with children, teens and adults for over 29 years in a variety of settings. During this time, I have developed specialties in: Parent Coaching, Art Therapy, and Navigating Life with Chronic Illness. From decades of working with children and families, I am skilled at helping parents to better understand their children, learn to solve problems collaboratively, develop practical and effective ways to manage conflicts, and improve family relationships.
My graduate degrees and experience in Art Therapy and Social Work expand the range of tools and services that I am able to offer. Art therapy provides a safe, powerful way to process thoughts and feelings that seem too difficult to express in words. Directive and non-directive art making, collage, meditation, and creative journaling are some of the expressive arts techniques that I weave into sessions. No artistic talent or experience is necessary to benefit from art therapy. To learn more, please visit: https://arttherapy.org/what-is-art-therapy/
I am adept at working with clients with a range of issues including but not limited to ADHD, anxiety, relationship conflicts, adjusting to college life, mood disorders, and life transitions. I also have unique expertise in helping clients to navigate life with chronic illness. Some of the ways in which therapy can assist individuals living with chronic illness include:
- adjusting to a new diagnosis or a change in functioning,
- dealing with uncertainty and feeling overwhelmed,
- managing medical care for yourself or a loved one,
- grieving losses, and
- discovering new ways to find joy, connection and meaning.
Research shows that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for success in therapy. I strive to provide a warm, compassionate and accepting space where clients can safely explore challenges and express vulnerabilities. Clients have shared that they find me to be empathic, insightful, and supportive which has made it easier to share their struggles. It is important to me that my clients feel seen, heard, and valued. I understand how hard it can be to reach out for help. I’d love to get to know you, hear your stories, and help you to discover greater insight, joy and meaning in your life.
